"A total of 158 Disney Swish rocket assisted bombs were deployed by B-17 bombers during WWII. The bombers were deployed during 4 missions during the months of Feb, March and April 1945. The targets included E-boat pens in Holland, submarine assembly factory in Germany and additional hardened targets in Hamburg, Germany. The long slender bombs were rocket propelled to increase their strike speed by 26%. They could perforate around 16 feet of reinforced concrete. Unfortunately, the combat effectiveness was less than desirable. Issues included, the bombs needed to strike the target (near misses were insignificant), the rocket motors failed to ignite and the warhead payload was insufficient to induce significant damage."
